The student will be involved in an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)-sponsored project "Study of Synergistic Effects of Thermal Aging and Irradiation on Microstructure Evolution of Stainless Steel Welds in LWR Reactor Internals." This work will simulate the combined mechanisms of thermal aging and irradiation to provide an understanding of the microstructural changes in stainless steel weld materials in reactor environments, and to help establish the correlation of material microstructure to mechanical properties. The student will be involved in research activities including literature search, specimen preparation for Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), TEM with in-situ ion irradiation at the IVEM-Tandem Facility, data analysis and reserach result reporting.
